When Jeff wanted to provide a unique outdoor adventure for his eight year old son, Owen, he contacted Northern Vertical Climbing Guides. Most kids these days spend more time indoors using screens, which has proven largely to be unhealthy. Getting outdoors in natural settings allows children and families the time and freedom to get grounded, connect with nature and themselves. Rock climbing in Maine provides this experience and more - it helps us ascend to the height of self awareness and self confidence, which transfers into our daily lives.
Owen had some trepidation at first but was driven to succeed while rock climbing at Barrett’s Cove Cliff in Camden, Maine. He learned how to put on a climbing helmet, harness and shoes. He stayed mindful to step only on rocks while wearing the rock climbing shoes. Owen practiced tying a figure eight knot with Jeff and climbed over and over again on the three climbs I set up for them.
Owen and Jeff built kept me and each other safe through belaying. How incredible for a father and son to build trust and support one another like that. In no time at all, Owen built up so much confidence that his fear turned into sheer exhilaration. I could not be more proud of Jeff and Owen and here is their experience caught on video to proof it.
